This beautiful species is distributed in Europe, and the West of the European part of the former Soviet Union. Clytus tropicus develops in broadleaf trees, especially in oak (Quercus).

Body length:10 - 20 mm
Life cycle:1 - 2 years
Adults in:May - July
Host plant:polyphagous in deciduous trees (Quercus, Prunus, Pyrus etc.)
Distribution:Europe except North, West Russia

The beetles in the pictures were reared from larvae collected under the bark of dead standing oak trunks found in Dobųķ¹ and Kutnį Hora (Central Bohemia, Czech Republic).
