This Phytoecia species, common throughout Europe, develops in a broad variety of Apiaceae (e.g. Aegopodium podagraria, Anthriscus sylvestris, Astrantia major, Bupleurum aureum, Chaerophyllum aureum, Chaerophyllum
bulbosum, Chaerophyllum temulum, Daucus carota, Heracleum sphondylium, Laserpitium siler, Torilis japonica). The Ph. cylindrica females lay eggs in the stem of the host plant, the larval gallery lead through the center
of the stem, especially in the basal part to deeper roots. The pupa is located in a separate pupal cell in the stem close to the ground surface. It is mostly stated that the larvae pupate in late summer and the adults hatch in the autumn, overwintering in the pupal cell,
which they leave in the spring. Life-cycle one year. Adults, active from April to June, can be found on the host plants [▽][❖].

The depicted living beetles were collected in: (NR) - in Zugliget (Budapest, Central Hungary region, Hungary) on May 10, 2013; (PJ) - Trpejca (Трпејца) village environs (1401 m a.s.l.,
Galičica NP/Национален парк Галичица; SW Macedonia) on June 2-3, 2011 and May 20, 2013, respectively.
The mounted specimen was collected Glashütte (Kreuth, Miesbach district, Upper Bavaria, Germany) in Summer 2003.
