Pterolophia angusta, a species of deciduous forests of North-East Asia, has been described from Japan as Praonetha angusta by Henry Walter Bates in 1873 [▽]. The species has two subspecies - the first one, nominotypical, is found only in Japan, and a second one, P. angusta multinotata (described as a separate species from Korea by Maurice Pic in 1931 [❖]), occurs on the continent (China, Korea, Mongolia, Russia). Larvae of P. angusta multinotata develop in dying/freshly dead branches of deciduous trees and shrubs. Young larvae feed subcortically creating longitudinal in sapwood impressed galleries filled with fine frass. The larvae of later instars enter the heartwood and after the second overwintering bore longitudinal gallery with a pupal cell at its end. Life-cycle 2 years, adults can be found on the host trees during summer months [✧].

Body length:6 - 9 mm
Life cycle:2 years
Adults in:June - August
Host plant:polyphagous in deciduous trees (e.g. Quercus, Ulmus, Fraxinus, Lespedeza, Betula, Prunus, etc.)
Distribution:Russian Far East and East Siberia, China, Korea, Mongolia [✳]

The depicted female beetle was collected in Gerasimov creek (Герасимов ключ) valley close to Lazo (Лазо́) village (Lazovsky district, Primorsky Krai, Far Eastern Federal District, Russia) on July 11, 2010.
