Chlorophorus sexguttatus

Chlorophorus sexguttatus is a conspicuous and with adjacent taxa unmistakable species occuring in North Africa (known from Algeria, Libya, Morocco). It has been described from Algeria by Pierre Hippolyte Lucas as Clytus sexguttatus in 1847 [✧]. Ch. sexguttatus larvae develop in the stems of herbaceous plants from Fabaceae family (e.g. Ebenus pinnata). Adults, active from April to June, are diurnal and anthophilous (often on Apiaceae) [❖].

The depicted beetles were collected in: ♂ - Tamri (التامري‬ / ⵜⴰⵎⵔⵉ) environs (N30°43′38″ W09°50′24″; 100 m a.s.l., Agadir-Ida Ou Tanane prefecture, Souss-Massa region, Morocco) in April 17-18, 2009; ♀ - Tifnite (تيفنيت / ⵜⵉⴼⵏⵉⵜ) village environs (Chtouka-Aït Baha province, Souss-Massa region, Morocco) in April 19-20, 2014;
