Phytoecia behen has been described recently from Gemecik village situated west of Refahiye (NE Turkey) by Sama and Rejzek, 1999. The species is related to P. nepheloides Sama, 1997 described from north-eastern Syria and recorded later also from the environs of Adana (Turkey).

According to Rejzek et al. (2001) Phytoecia behen develops in Centaurea urvillei (Asteraceae)
