Calchaenesthes pistacivora

Calchaenesthes pistacivora, an endemic Iranian species developing in twigs of Pistacia, was described by Carolus Holzschuh from Sirjan, SE Iran in 2003 [❖]. The species had been reported as a pest in Pistacia orchards in Iran [✧][▽]. Detail information about biology of this interesting beetle (...with many pictures) were published in paper by Cornelis van Achterberg and Mohammad Reza Mehrnejad published in 2011 [★].

Adults in:April - May
Host plant:Pistacia vera, Pistacia mutica
Distribution:a species endemic to Iran


The depicted male beetle was collected on the host plant (Pistacia sp.) in Zīādābād (زياداباد‎) village environs (N29°10′41″ E53°22′41″; 1700 m a.s.l., Jangal Rural District, Central district of Fasā county, Fars province, Iran) on May 14, 2019.
