Cortodera flavimana, a taxonomically very complex species (12 known subspecies) with a range extending from Slovakia to Turkey, has been described from Istambul environs (Turkey) as Leptura villosa var. flavimana by Joseph Waltl in 1838 [❖]. Its melanic subspecies C. flavimana schurmanni, endemic to the Peloponnese, was originally described from the vicinity of Kalavryta (Peloponnese, Greece) as a separate species C. schurmanni by Gianfranco Sama in 1997 [❖], downgraded to a subspecies level it was by Mikhail L. Danilevsky in 2015 [▽]. C. flavimana schurmanni larvae develop with high probability in roots of Ranunculus species. Adults, active from April to June, are diurnal and anthophilous and can be found on the host plants.
