Crossotus strigifrons, an interesting Ethiopian faunistic element extending in the north of its distribution range to the Arabian Peninsula and Near East, has been described from Sudan as Dichostates strigifrons by Léon Marc Herminie Fairmaire in 1885 [✧]. Larvae of C. strigifrons develop in wood of dying or freshly dead Vachellia species. Pupation occurs directly in the larval gallery without prior creating of a pupal cell. Adults, active in autumn and spring (depends on region), can be found on freshly felled, dead or dying host trees or attracted to light.

Body length:12 - 18 mm
Life cycle:2 years [?]
Adults in:April - November
Host plant:Vachellia spp. (= former Acacia)
Distribution: Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia, Sudan, Israel, Jordan, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Yemen

Depicted mounted beetles were reared from larvae found in Acacia branch collected in Wadi Darbat (N17°3′6″ E54°25′29″; 10 m a.s.l., Taqah/طاقة environs, Dhofar governorate, Oman) in autumn 2018 and 2024. The living specimens were reared from larvae found in Acacia branch collected in Wādī an Nu‘mān (20 km W of At Taif/ اَلطَّائِفُ‎; (N21°15′59″ E40°13′21″; 825 m a.s.l., Mecca province, Saudi Arabia) on March 28, 2022.
