Enaretta somaliensis, an interesting species occuring in East Africa and Arabian peninsula, has been described from Somalia by Stephan von Breuning in 1939 [✮]. Specimens of E. somaliensis from Arabian peninsula were often misidentified as broadly distributed sister taxon Enaretta caudata (Fåhraeus, 1872) [▽] and also were described as a new taxon, Enaretta samai, according to specimens collected in Saudi Arabia and Oman by Pierpaolo Rapuzzi and Hathal al Dhafer in 2024 [▽]. E. samai was synonymized with E. somaliensis by Jérôme Sudre et al. in 2025 [✧] . Larval development reported in Vachellia sp., adults are nocturnal and can be attracted to light traps.
Body length: 6 - 7 mm Life cycle: 1 year [?] Adults in: January - September Host plant: Vachellia spp. Distribution: Arabian peninsula (Oman, Saudi Arabia, Yemen) and Africa (Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, Zimbabwe)
The depicted beetles were attracted to light in: ♂ – wadi 11 km NW Rakhyut (N16°45′46″ E53°19′45″; 800 m a.s.l., Dhofar governorate, Oman) on September 27, 2025; ♀ – close to creek in Eyshat Spring environs (N16°59′59″ E53°49′8″; 200 m a.s.l., 19 km NW Raysūt/ريسوت, Dhofar governorate, Oman) on September 28–29, 2024.Collected by David Navrátil and Martin Fiala
