Iberodorcadion almarzense var. villosladense

Iberodorcadion (Hispanodorcadion) almarzense var. villosladense, an interesting Dorcadion known from mountain ranges of La Rioja, Segovia and Soria provinces (Castile and León region of Spain), has been originally described from Villoslada environs (Sierra Cebollera) as a Dorcadion villosladense by Martínez de la Escalera in 1902 [❖]. This taxon was later considered only a variety of Iberodorcadion (Hispanodorcadion) neilense (Escalera, 1902), but eventually it was considered as a variety of a reelevated species Iberodorcadion (Hispanodorcadion) almarzense (Escalera, 1902) [❖] by Mario Tomé in 2013 [✧].

Adults in:April - May
Host plant:roots and basal stem parts of Poaceae
Distribution:an endemic species to Castile and León region (Spain)


The depicted beetles were collected in Puerto de Piqueras mountain pass environs (1460 m a.s.l., Soria province, Castile and León, Spain) on April 13, 2015.
