Dorcadion (Baeticodorcadion) marmottani, an endemic montane species of the South-East part of the Iberian penisula (Andalusia, Castilla-La Mancha, Region de Murcia), was described from Granada province as Dorcadion marmottani by Manuel Martínez de la Escalera in 1900 [▽]. I. marmottani is an univoltine species with an annual life cycle and a very long hatching period (from spring to autumn). Females lay eggs into stems of grasses from Poaceae family, where takes place the larval development. I. marmottani populations are located in montane areas always above altitude 1600 m, so they are physically separated from a close taxon I. amorii (Marseul, 1856) which occupies lower altitudes [❖][✧].

Body length:10 - 15 mm
Life cycle:1 year
Adults in:April - November
Host plant:roots and basal stem parts of Poaceae (Phalaris, Dactylis and Festuca)
Distribution:an endemic montane species of the SE part of Iberian penisula (Andalusia, Castilla-La Mancha, Region de Murcia)

The depicted beetles were collected in: ♂ - Puerto de la Losa - Húescar (Cordilleras Béticas, Province of Granada, Andalusia, Spain) on October 16, 2010; ♀ Campos de Hernán Perea (Cazorla environs, Province of Jaén, Andalusia, Spain) on October 10, 2010.
