Idactus coquereli, a species occuring in Arabian Peininsula and East Africa, has been described from Eritrea as Dichostathes Coquereli by Léon Marc Herminie Fairmaire in 1890 [✧]. I. iranicus, decribed by Stephen Breuning from Iran in 1975 [❖] is currently considered synonym with I. coquereli [✳]. I. coquereli is a nocturnal species and occasionally comes to light. Adults can rather be collected on their host plants at night.
Body length: 8 - 13,5 mm Life cycle: 1 year [?] Adults in: May - July Host plant: polyphagous in broadleaf trees Distribution: United Arab Emirates, Iran, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Africa (Ethiopia, Somalia, Djibouti, Kenya)
Depicted mounted male beetles were: A - collected in Jabal al Fatk (N16°39′ E53°03′; 191 m a.s.l., Hawf NE Al Ghaydah, Yemen) on April 2, 2007; B - reared from larva found in Maghsail (المغسيل) village environs (N16.852° E53.720°; 450 m a.s.l., 30 km W of Raysūt, Dhofar Governorate, Oman). The depicted living beetle was reared from larva feeding in Jatropha dhofarica in Wadi Athawq (13 m a.s.l.; 2 km NW of Maghsail, Dhofar Governorate, Oman) in September 2018.Collected by Stanislav Kadlec, Pavel Hubený and Jan Pelikán
