Idactus cristulatus, an interesting African faunistic element extending in the north of its distribution range to the Arabian Peninsula, has been described from Djibouti as Pogonocherus cristulatus by Léon Marc Herminie Fairmaire in 1886 [✧].

Adults in:depends on region (February - November)
Host plant:polyphagous in broadleaf trees and shrubs (Sclerocarya birrea, Terminalia sericea)
Distribution: Oman, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Africa (Botswana, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mozambique, Somalia, South Africa, Tanzania, Togo, Zimbabwe)


Depicted beetle was reared from larva found in Sclerocarya birrea in Bushview Lodge environs (S25°23′47″ E27°43′23″; 1170 m a.s.l., 9 km SW Jericho, Bojanala Platinum district, North West province, South Africa) in November 2021.
