Semanotus russicus is distributed in Europe (South-East and Central Europe), North Africa, Turkey, and Transcaucasia. It develops in conifers (Juniperus, Cedrus). Larvae feed under bark of dying or dead branches and trunks.
The depicted beetles were reared from larvae found in a dying juniper (Juniperus communis) trunk. The larvae were collected in Gradac (South Dalmatia, Croatia). Collected by M.Hoskovec.
